We build award-winning, user-experience focused web & mobile applications.
Everloop's founders approached us with an idea for a safe social network for tweens. We worked together through repeated iterations on the product to build a service enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of users, while maintaining strict regulatory compliance with COPPA. We're proud to have been with Everloop from pre-seed, through winning DEMO 2010 for Social Media, 2010 ONHollywood, Digital Media, 2010 & 2011 AlwaysON Global 250, and the recent completion of a $3.1M round of funding.
Jetstream is a travel social network that allows mobile users to share stories and photos as they travel, connect with travelers near them, and match future travel plans with people in their networks. We designed the brand and interfaces, then built the platform and iPhone app.
ZEN builds B2B branded casino-style Windows games and wanted to expand into the online gaming market. Turing developed a robust Scala/JRuby middleware to their legacy Java poker engine API, designed an engaging HTML5/CSS3 game interface, then scaled the application to thousands of concurrent real-time connections per machine.
The Telluride Film Festival "represents the rarest jewel in the crown of the festival-going experience." It is a wonderful festival, and our client since 2004. We built the new site, a vodcasting system, and a ticket purchasing system for the festival. We redesign the site every year based on the festival poster; past years have been based on art from Maira Kalman, Dave McKean, John Canemaker, Laurie Anderson, William Wegman, and Ralph Eggleston.
Turing is headquartered in Berkeley, CA. Our award-winning team is globally distributed, although most of us are on the West Coast in California and Oregon. Our global footprint and US base allow us to continue development on a 24-hour cycle.
Turing uses a variant of the SCRUM development process which we have tuned to accomodate user experience centric development. We've found that the careful integration of design into the development process can be the determining factor for the success of a project.
Through communication and research, we become familiar with your company, customers, business model, competition, marketing, and risk profile. If we understand the ecosystem in your corner of the market, we can help you determine the best strategy and tactics for your product's development. We've worked with startups at all stages of funding from pre-seed to series-C and beyond, so we'll have useful advice regardless of where your company is in the process.

This is where the fun begins. We start by sketching your application and sharing rough ideas very rapidly: user stories, structure, layouts, features, and patterns will all flow quickly in a cycle of rapid feedback and modifications. Next, we'll begin wireframing a clickable prototype of the application so everyone involved can get a sense for the behavior of the application. When these wireframes are mature, we switch the focus to Branding and Interface Design. We work iteratively to replace wireframes in the clickable prototype with beautiful interface design. We work to create a visual grammar for the application which can be applied to all future development. When the Interface Design is completed, we break down all features into stories, and create conversion goals & associated metrics for important processes like signup.
If you need branding, we will incorporate the design of a brand package into this stage of the project.

Our teams work in two week iterations to develop and deliver a functional build of the application. We demonstrate progress at the end of each iteration - real working software you can use to provide feedback.
