5X Increase in Parts Delivery via Serverless Supply Chain Management

About the client

A leading U.S.-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer dedicated to creating high-performance, all-electric vehicles with a focus on sustainability and innovation in the automotive industry.

The problem

The client’s supply chain management system was burdened by manual processes and a lack of integration with supplier engagement, leading to delays in parts deliveries, inaccurate labeling, and inefficient tracking systems. The labeling process was slow, resulting in errors that caused shipment delays, while the absence of real-time tracking further hindered timely production.

The solution

The client, with support from Turing, implemented a serverless infrastructure to optimize supply chain operations and improve supplier collaboration:

  • Integration and event-driven architecture: Turing leveraged AWS Serverless Services, including AWS Lambda, AWS EventBridge, and AWS Step Functions, to integrate internal supply chain systems with external transportation management systems. This event-driven architecture provided real-time updates and improved communication between supply chain components.
  • Microservices architecture: A microservices-based architecture was adopted, enabling modularity and scalability. React and Redux were employed for the front-end, ensuring a responsive and interactive user interface.
  • Data management and search capabilities: AWS DynamoDB was used for efficient data storage and retrieval, while AWS OpenSearch provided advanced search functionality for quick and accurate data access.
  • Automated labeling system: A new labeling system capable of producing 15,000 labels per minute was developed, automating the process and reducing labeling errors significantly.
  • Agile methodologies: Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Test-Driven Development were adopted to ensure quality control and continuous improvement throughout the development process.

5X Increase in Parts Delivery via Serverless Supply Chain Management

The result

  • 5X increase in parts delivery: The optimized supply chain operations led to a fivefold increase in the number of parts delivered annually.
  • 150X increase in labeling efficiency: The automated labeling system produced over 5 million labels in 2023, reducing shipment errors and delays.
  • 3,000+ suppliers onboarded: Centralized supplier management enabled the efficient onboarding of over 3,000 suppliers, improving collaboration and compliance.
  • 29,000 cars produced in 2023: The optimized supply chain supported the client in producing 29,000 electric vehicles in the first half of 2023, meeting scalability goals.
