Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Participate in the assessment of the company’s big data infrastructure
  • Design, develop and customize distributed Hadoop applications
  • Identify and troubleshoot application bugs and maintain the data security
  • Design and implement MapReduce programs and other components of the Hadoop ecosystem
  • Develop scripts and tools for data analysis and processing
  • Collaborate with other teams, including QA and other engineering teams, to implement data security best practices
  • Create data tracking programs and maintain documentation for Hadoop-based systems

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science or IT (or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of experience in Hadoop application development (rare exceptions for highly skilled developers)
  • Working knowledge of Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), MapReduce, YARN, and related technologies
  • Strong grasp of HBase, ZooKeeper, Hive, Kafka, and other Apache software
  • Familiarity with database technologies like MySQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra
  • Strong understanding of data loading tools such as Flume and Sqoop
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and experience in working with large datasets.
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems
  • Fluent in English to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work 40 hours/week with a 4-hour overlap with US time zones

Preferred skills

  • Understanding of security aspects of Hadoop and related technologies
  • Good knowledge of back-end technologies, specifically Java, Node.js, and Python
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
